Cloud Cost & Performance Audit

Find out where your cloud budget goes.

Connect cloud spend to actual application behavior. Identify expensive resources and performance bottlenecks, then get a ranked plan with clear tradeoffs.

Application owners with growing bills or slow systems

Sound familiar?

Cloud costs are rising faster than usage.

Slow queries or response times affect the customer experience.

You need evidence before resizing, migrating, or rearchitecting.

What you take away

Deliverables you
can actually use.

The starting package covers one workload and its supporting cloud resources. We confirm the exact boundary together.

01

Cost and workload baseline

A breakdown of the scoped resources, usage patterns, billing drivers, and available performance signals.

02

Bottleneck analysis

A review of application behavior, database hotspots, scaling choices, and resource utilization.

03

Optimization backlog

Prioritized changes with estimated impact ranges, implementation effort, and reliability tradeoffs.

04

Validation plan

A measurement approach to check whether changes improve cost or performance without degrading service.

A practical guide

Connect your cloud bill to useful work.

A high cloud bill and a slow application may share a cause, but they need evidence before you treat them together. Begin with one workload and ask what it costs to deliver a useful result at an acceptable level of service.

How to do it yourself

First, define the workload boundary and choose a representative period. Include its application hosts, database, storage, background jobs, and network traffic. Identify any shared costs you cannot yet allocate. Record the volume of useful work, such as completed orders or processed files.

Next, put cost and performance on the same timeline. Compare resource usage with request volume, response times, errors, and scheduled activity. Look at both typical behavior and peaks. A monthly average can hide a short period that drives capacity requirements or creates delays.

Trace the most expensive or slowest operations. Check for repeated queries, unnecessary transfers, oversized resources, and work that could be scheduled differently. Write each idea as a hypothesis with supporting evidence. Distinguish an application inefficiency from a hosting choice.

For each proposed change, define how you would measure success. Include service quality, failure rate, and operational effort alongside the cost. Where a controlled experiment is appropriate, change one variable and compare similar workloads. Mark savings as estimates until they have been measured.

Rank the opportunities and document the tradeoffs. Some savings may increase recovery time or reduce capacity headroom; some performance improvements may increase cost. End with an actionable backlog and a measurement plan that lets the workload owner choose deliberately.

How we approach the work

Our approach combines application architecture, .NET and SQL diagnosis, and Azure or self-hosted deployment experience. We follow the business operation through the code and infrastructure so the explanation goes beyond a list of expensive resources. The workload’s operating constraints guide the recommendations.

We establish a baseline, investigate the leading causes, and produce a ranked improvement plan. This audit keeps implementation decisions explicit: we explain which changes can be validated quickly, which need further investigation, and what evidence should be collected after implementation.

The tools behind the work

For an Azure workload, Microsoft Cost Management helps inspect spend and allocation, while Azure Monitor provides operational signals. SQL Server Query Store can help investigate query behavior when it is available and configured. We use the equivalent billing and monitoring evidence for other hosting arrangements.

In SDD, Specs Driven Development, we record performance expectations, optimization hypotheses, and the tests needed to judge a change. Linking a finding to a requirement keeps a cost reduction connected to the service quality the business still needs.

What we need
from your team.

  • Read-only access to cost and monitoring data
  • The workload architecture and relevant application context
  • A representative usage period and agreed business constraints

A few useful answers

Before we start.

Is this only for Azure?

Azure and .NET workloads are a natural fit. Hybrid and dedicated-server setups can also be assessed when the application and billing data are available. We confirm coverage before quoting.

How is the engagement priced?

The indicative estimate starts at €3,500, excluding VAT, for the stated package boundary. After a fit conversation, you receive a fixed quote with the exact deliverables, fee, and schedule. Work starts after acceptance; changes are quoted separately.

What happens after delivery?

You receive the working files, findings, and a handover session. Your team can take the next steps, or we can scope a follow-on engagement together.
